[Silver waits around outside the bathroom until the meeting of the C-classes is over, arms folded. He's trying to keep his expression neutral, but he is terrible at it -- and his face says it all. Anger and hurt]
Secret meetings already, huh? Do you really think that's the best idea, Saki...?
Edited (i forgot what day it is) 2019-06-23 03:34 (UTC)
I do trust you. I still do. But we're all in this together, Saki. [the hurt is more evident in his voice now] We don't need secrets. We don't need to divide ourselves into "C-class" and "D-class". Or even into the dumb little teams they picked for us. If we're going to get through this, we have to be open with one another... not hiding in the bathroom because you don't think you can trust us.
Some of the C-class thought it would be better for us to gather our thoughts somewhere where we could have a little privacy. Still, we shouldn't have excluded all of D-class from the conversation. I really did think we could come up with a plan together, but in the end, we weren't able to come up with much.
Oh... the cameras. [Silver looks around. No cameras in here... Silver feels a little guilty for assuming it was a trust thing, and his ears and quills droop] I get it now...I'm sorry for doubting you... [he hums thoughtfully] Though, if the higher ups find out we're using the bathroom for this, they might put microphones in here, too. I basically assumed no where in this house is really private to begin with.
Yeah. After all, I looked at the rules... there's nothing there about not helping other teams during the games. There's only winners and losers, who die. There's no rules about how many winners there are... we can all get out of this is we play our cards right! And... Inaba... she said that what happens here might affect more than just us.
[She does glance up a bit at that, surprised and... a little alarmed.]
...Yes, we talked about that, too. I don't think we want to show off brutal murders while everyone in the Foundation is watching us. And I did confirm with Dazai himself that we can work together no matter what team we're on.
Mmmhmm. Inaba thinks that the Foundation might use us as an excuse to get rid of all the other people brought in by the machine, if we act reckless and dangerous. It's a lot of responsibility...
[Silver nods. He doesn't like it either, but... he has no reason to doubt Inaba, either. ]
We have to show everyone that even if we have dangerous abilities, we can be trusted. That we're people! We could help the people of this world so much better if they would let us...
I know. Me too... [Silver looks at his feet, then back up at Saki] But.... everyone at the Foundation can see this show. Maybe... maybe if natives see us acting like normal people, there can be a sea change? It's a long shot, but it's the only shot we've got.
[Silver feels the pressure too. It's enough to make him feel like he's drowning. But for all the pressure he feels, he knows Saki must be feeling it three times as much. He grabs her hands in his and gives her a cheerful smile]
Saki! It should be easy for you! Just be yourself. And I know you can't use your powers on people that look human -- but I can. So let me handle breaking up fights.
[She looks up in surprise as he does, her expression falling again as he speaks.
Had she been that transparent...?]
Silver...
[She's about to cry. No, scratch that, she is beginning to cry, shoulders hunched.
She just can't hold it in anymore.]
Thank you. Thank you.
[A strange thing, perhaps, to say when one is crying. But the nature of this place has left her horrifically vulnerable to attack, and none are more aware of that than she is. She can do everything in her power to prevent the worse, but if the worse happens?
[Silver knows a thing or two about feeling helpless and how to deal with those feelings, Saki. But the crying is somewhat unexpected. Silver turns his head and spots a box of tissues, and he floats a few over to give to his friend] Here. It's ok... cry if you need to. Trust me to do what you can't.
[The tissues floating over to her elicit a small laugh as it strikes her how ridiculous and awful this situation is, that she, a grown woman, is having a breakdown after a single day, and crying all over a hedgehog.
She feels so pathetic. But it's not the first time, nor will it be the last, even if she knows that Silver is right.]
You're really sweet, you know that, Silver? [She manages a watery smile as she wipes away her tears.] And here I was, talking about working together, and yet...
[She didn't really give them an opportunity to do that, did she?]
[look the day will come that Silver has a breakdown and he'll need a shoulder to cry on! YOU BETTER BE THERE, SAKI]
Heh. I get that a lot. [he grins] But anyway... it's fine. Everyone makes mistakes. I definitely do, all the time! ... But we can't let that trip us up too long.
[They tried to save everyone they could, but in the end... they hadn't. While more made it out than expected, the loss would still be felt.
Saki's exhausted, her hair back in its split ponytail over her shoulder now that it's time to begin relaxing into the night, but it's hard to do that after such an intense series of games. So, she'll seek out Silver - it was a lot to go through for someone so young.
[Silver is outside with the chickens! He's made a makeshift "coop" out of some of the deck chairs and a blanket-- it's little more than the most basic shelter, but it will have to do. There's a chicken with an orange bandana around his feet, but Silver seems to be focusing on another one]
I'm sorry about your person, Berenice... But Lady Azura and I will take care of you, I promise. The prinnies are going to build you a real house tomorrow...!
[Silver gives Saki a small smile] Well, I asked Dazai if I could borrow them, and he said yes! So I'll have to be sure to have some refreshments for them.
... Yeah. [Silver frowns deeply] I can't use my power on anything without it being pretty obvious... The things I focus on glow. [he shakes his head] I need to see if I can make that stop...
[Silver demonstrates. He focuses on one of the other deck chairs, lifting his hand. There's several visual cues -- the pupils of his golden eyes glow bright teal, the markings on his gloves glow and pulse, and a faint aqua glow surrounds the chair -- as he lifts it, spins it a few times, and then sets it back down]
It's always been that way, except maybe when I was just a little kid and was just pushing things a few inches at a time.
[Silver glances at the chair again, and it glows for a split second and moves about an inch to one side. It seems like the mere act of him focusing on an object causes the glow]
Well... I don't have to look at it, but... I need to know where it is, kind of? Then I can just picture it in my mind. Like...
[he looks around the deck, making a mental note of the locations of the other deck furniture. Then, without looking specifically at any of it, he picks it up and moves it around. Again, everything glows]
WEEK 1
Saturday
Secret meetings already, huh? Do you really think that's the best idea, Saki...?
Re: Saturday
Still. This is her job, so she steels herself, turning to face Silver.]
In hindsight? No. I thought it would have been beneficial for everyone, but we weren't even able to come up with anything worthwhile.
[And when she sighs, it's one of frustration. Stupid, stupid... it's all just so stupid.]
I'm sorry. I told you to trust me and that we'd handle it, but... some job we're doing of that, huh?

no subject
[And her voice hurts, too. She's too tired for this right now. Too much has happened, and she's still just trying to keep her head above the water.]
...That's not why we were in there. [But it sounds so weak. There's nothing she can say to back it up, not right now.
Instead, she merely shakes her head, tries to inject some energy back in her steps, and... reaches out to take his hand.]
no subject
It's not? Then why?
[he looks at her hand for a moment, then places his gloved hand in hers]
no subject
The bathroom! Surprise. Will he follow her in?]
no subject
He follows, looking around]
What's so special about this bathroom?
no subject
[So. There you go.]
Some of the C-class thought it would be better for us to gather our thoughts somewhere where we could have a little privacy. Still, we shouldn't have excluded all of D-class from the conversation. I really did think we could come up with a plan together, but in the end, we weren't able to come up with much.
I'm sorry.

[She sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose again.]
I'll try to avoid things like that from now on. If we're all going to get out of this together, we need to work as one team.
no subject
no subject
...Yes, we talked about that, too. I don't think we want to show off brutal murders while everyone in the Foundation is watching us. And I did confirm with Dazai himself that we can work together no matter what team we're on.
no subject
no subject
...It's possible.
[The words are incredibly reluctant.]
Everyone's eyes are on us right now. We can't be reckless.
no subject
We have to show everyone that even if we have dangerous abilities, we can be trusted. That we're people! We could help the people of this world so much better if they would let us...
no subject
...That's what I've been trying to do all along. But now they're just trying to get us killed, like we're just... animals, or insects to them.
[There's a faint shake to her voice that she can't quite stop. It's so unfair.]
no subject
no subject
[And she's feeling the pressure of that so strongly now, weighing on her shoulders, almost like a physical force.]
no subject
Saki! It should be easy for you! Just be yourself. And I know you can't use your powers on people that look human -- but I can. So let me handle breaking up fights.
no subject
Had she been that transparent...?]
Silver...
[She's about to cry. No, scratch that, she is beginning to cry, shoulders hunched.
She just can't hold it in anymore.]
Thank you. Thank you.
[A strange thing, perhaps, to say when one is crying. But the nature of this place has left her horrifically vulnerable to attack, and none are more aware of that than she is. She can do everything in her power to prevent the worse, but if the worse happens?
She doesn't even have a way to fight back.]
no subject
no subject
She feels so pathetic. But it's not the first time, nor will it be the last, even if she knows that Silver is right.]
You're really sweet, you know that, Silver? [She manages a watery smile as she wipes away her tears.] And here I was, talking about working together, and yet...
[She didn't really give them an opportunity to do that, did she?]
no subject
Heh. I get that a lot. [he grins] But anyway... it's fine. Everyone makes mistakes. I definitely do, all the time! ... But we can't let that trip us up too long.
no subject
She finishes wiping away her tears with that faint smile still in place.]
Mm. I'll probably continue to make mistakes, but... Whatever it takes, I will do everything I can to stop this.
I'll make sure no one has to die.
[It's like a new mantra. If she repeated it enough times, would the words finally have power?]
no subject
Making mistakes is just part of life, you know? We just gotta make sure we're not making the same mistakes over and over.
[Silver nods]
Now, let's get out of the bathroom, huh?
no subject
Another soft laugh and a nod, though.]
Yes. I think that's probably enough time in the bathroom for now.
no subject
Alright! [time to go join the others then!]
Week 2, Post-Game
Saki's exhausted, her hair back in its split ponytail over her shoulder now that it's time to begin relaxing into the night, but it's hard to do that after such an intense series of games. So, she'll seek out Silver - it was a lot to go through for someone so young.
Where might he be tonight?]
no subject
I'm sorry about your person, Berenice... But Lady Azura and I will take care of you, I promise. The prinnies are going to build you a real house tomorrow...!
no subject
Saki pauses to watch this for a moment before walking over, crouching down by the chickens as well.]
So the prinnies agreed to help you?
no subject
no subject
Do you need help with refreshments?
no subject
[he nods] I was thinking lemonade.
no subject
no subject
no subject
no subject
.... [he frowns, picking up George's chicken, which he has given a purple bandana, and cuddles her] Today was... rough.
no subject
...It was.
I wish... if we could have just used our powers, I could have...
[It would have been so easy to stop the wheel on life for both of them. So naturally, that was forbidden.]
no subject
no subject
[It's... something she might be able to help with. More than the fact that there are two more dead, chosen and then killed by poor luck.]
no subject
[Silver demonstrates. He focuses on one of the other deck chairs, lifting his hand. There's several visual cues -- the pupils of his golden eyes glow bright teal, the markings on his gloves glow and pulse, and a faint aqua glow surrounds the chair -- as he lifts it, spins it a few times, and then sets it back down]
It's always been that way, except maybe when I was just a little kid and was just pushing things a few inches at a time.
no subject
...What's the least amount of power you can use to move something?
no subject
[Silver glances at the chair again, and it glows for a split second and moves about an inch to one side. It seems like the mere act of him focusing on an object causes the glow]
no subject
Silver, out of curiosity - do you have to be looking at the things you're moving?
no subject
Well... I don't have to look at it, but... I need to know where it is, kind of? Then I can just picture it in my mind. Like...
[he looks around the deck, making a mental note of the locations of the other deck furniture. Then, without looking specifically at any of it, he picks it up and moves it around. Again, everything glows]
no subject
We definitely have to look at it to move it, but I thought it might be different for you.
[Hmm.]
Cantus can be a little more subtle, but... it would definitely be a problem if Dazai caught on.
[Because he definitely absolutely didn't during this game.]
